NOVAK DJOKOVIC VS ROBERTO CARBALLES BAENA PREDICTION
World number one Novak Djokovic beat Pierre-Hugues Herbert in straight sets on Tuesday to get his title defence underway at Roland-Garros, something he has never done before here in Paris.
The three-time champion is the only player to have beaten Rafael Nadal twice here at the Spaniard’s fortress but he is currently far from the player who set a new Men’s Singles Grand Slam record of 24 with victory at the US Open last summer. The Serb, who turned 37 last week in Geneva, has lost five times this season, coming into Paris without a title for the first time since 2018, as questions over his potential decline swell around his campaign this fortnight.
World number 63 Roberto Carballes Baena is unlikely to be the sixth player to upset Djokovic this season, with two heavy defeats to the Serb at Grand Slams already – most recently at last season’s Australian Open.
The 31-year-old is an great clay specialist on his day with plenty of weapons that can hurt the less comfortable on this surface but the Spaniard should struggled to make much of a dent here all the same. Back Djokovic to improve on his opener with a straight-sets victory.
