Two vastly exciting 19 year olds will face off in the Hamburg Open semi-finals here but more of the attention will be on home hopeful Noma Noha Akugue. The German will set a new career-high WTA world ranking of around 162nd after a stunning victory over former top 20 player Martina Trevisan on Thursday, coming back from a set down for the second round running. Russia’s Diana Shnaider will set a new career-high WTA world ranking of 86th after upsetting the defending champion, Bernarda Pera, in three sets of her own to make this potential thriller a hugely tough call. Noha Akugue can count on a partisan support on Friday on Centre Court but Shnaider has more experience in big matches like this after almost upsetting Maria Sakkari at the Australian Open and more recently reaching the last 16 at the Charleston 500.
