World number 56 Nicolas Jarry won the second ATP title of his career at the Chile Open, on home clay, back in February and he takes a 12-4 record on the surface into the first round of the Italian Open. The 27-year-old recently upset Borna Coric at the Barcelona Open and he is one of only a few players to have taken a set from Carlos Alcaraz this season to prove his worth in these conditions but world number 101 Yannick Hanfmann also recently grabbed a huge upset with a straight-sets result over Lorenzo Musetti in Madrid two weeks ago. The German qualified well this week to maintain some strong form in his favoured clay, with a recent run to the semi-finals of the Houston Open including a seasons-best ranking win over Tommy Paul, and this should be an entertaining battle as a result. Jarry beat Hanfmann in the quarter-finals of the Chile Open three months ago en-route to the title and he leads the 31-year-old 2-0 after claiming their first encounter, also on clay, last summer in Gstaad. Back Jarry to win outright here with both previous matches well-contested.
