THE PREDICTION
27-year-old Nicolas Jarry set a new career-high ATP world ranking of 28th this week after an excellent clay swing ended with a run to the round of 16 at Roland-Garros. The Chilean won two ATP titles on clay this season in Geneva and on home soil in Santiago but he possesses many of the skills required to excel on grass too as a tall, powerful server. World number five Stefanos Tsitsipas won the Mallorca Championships last summer but there is little doubt that the Greek prefers his tennis on clay and hardcourts. A hard-fought three-set victory over Gregoire Barrere on Monday does not bode well for his chances in Halle as he likely needs a few more matches to get to grips with the surface and Jarry’s straight-sets result over Corentin Moutet is the more dependable result. Tsitsipas beat Jarry in straight sets at the Monte-Carlo Masters in April but the pair share a 1-1 head-to-head record after Jarry won their first encounter, on grass, at the Libema Open four years ago. Back Jarry to earn at least a set to leave this potential upset in the balance.
