World number 25 Nicolas Jarry has enjoyed his best season on tour to date with two ATP titles claimed in his native Santiago and then Geneva more recently. The 27-year-old set a career-high of 24th earlier this month off the back of his runs to the round of 16 at Roland-Garros and quarter-finals in Halle and Los Cabos but it was his valiant four-set defeat to eventual champion Carlos Alcaraz in the third round at Wimbledon that best proved his potential. 19-year-old Luca Van Assche comes into New York for his US Open debut at a career-high ATP world ranking of 64th but a 1-3 record at Grand Slams so far suggests he has a lot to learn at the next level. The Frenchman looks a huge future star on his favoured clay, on which he recently stunned Alejandro Davidovich Fokina to make the Hamburg 500 quarters, but recent results on hardcourts suggest this is Jarry’s match to lose. Back the Chilean to win outright here with a recent injury scare throwing a little doubt over his fitness.
