27-year-old Nicolas Jarry set a new career-high ATP world ranking of 35th this week after a brilliant campaign at the Genera Open saw him upset Alexander Zverev, Casper Ruud and Grigor Dimitrov to claim a third ATP title on clay. The Chilean won his second on home soil in Santiago back in February to take one of the best records on clay (16-5) on tour into Roland-Garros but he will have to tackle the notoriously tricky turnaround from title winner to first round clash here. World number 160 Hugo Dellien is through to the first round on a protected ranking as he continues to return from a lengthy injury lay-off but he has impressed on clay with a run to the semi-finals of the Cordoba Open and a Challenger title claimed in Santiago not long after Jarry’s ATP 250 trophy. The Bolivian will know his best chance of winning this tough opener is starting fast and it is difficult to gauge how Jarry will react after Saturday’s emotional high. Back the Chilean to win outright or consider this one as a reasonable candidate for five sets.
