THE PREDICTION
This is a hugely unlikely final match-up between former world number three Grigor Dimitrov, who has not reached a final on tour in five years, and world number 54 Nicolas Jarry who has upset two top players to reach his second final of the season. 27-year-old Jarry came back from a set down to stun Casper Ruud in the quarter-finals on Thursday and then backed it up with a hugely impressive straight-sets win over former champion Alexander Zverev but Dimitrov has arguably grabbed the best result of the week in a comeback over Taylor Fritz on Friday. The world number 33’s most recent title was his most prestigious at the ATP Finals in 2017 and winning here on Saturday would be an incalculable boost to his waning confidence on tour. Jarry will move back inside the top 40 ahead of Roland-Garros and snap his career-high of 38th with victory here, with February’s title on home clay in Santiago suggesting he is the more dependable player to back here. The Chilean was the winner of their only previous encounter, on clay, in three sets at the 2019 Barcelona Open and backing him to earn at least one now looks the most sensible way to lean – particularly as Dimitrov has come from behind to win in each of his last two matches.
