THE PREDICTION

Former world number two Alexander Zverev won the Geneva Open back in 2019 at Nicolas Jarry’s expense, beating the Chilean in three sets. The current world number 27 leads Jarry 2-1 in their head-to-head after Jarry took their first encounter in Barcelona earlier that season and all three of their encounters, now four, have come on clay. 26-year-old Zverev was in control against Yibing WU before his opponent retired in the first set and that sees the German through to the semi-finals having played just three sets after a comfortable opener on Tuesday. World number 54 Jarry has already won an ATP 250 on clay this season, on home soil at the Chile Open, and he produced his best result of the year with a stunning comeback over two-time defending champion Casper Ruud on Thursday. Few players have a better record on clay this season than Jarry and as Zverev is still not back up to full speed that warrants caution. Zverev has earned at least a set in each of their three previous matches and that looks the sensible way to avoid the result here.
