THE PREDICTION
Mirra Andreeva became the seventh-youngest player to oust a top 20 opponent on the WTA tour on Thursday when she stunned world number 14 Beatriz Haddad-Maia in straight sets. The Russian turns 16 today in Madrid and she will be afforded a partisan atmosphere on Court 4 after a stunning run so far that also saw her upset former US Open finalist Leylah Fernandez in the first round. Andreeva will set a new career-high WTA world ranking of around 142nd if she completes another upset here but 31-year-old Magda Linette looks her most difficult challenge yet after navigating past a top clay-courter in Marketa Vondrousova on Thursday. Linette is also at a career-high WTA world ranking of 19th after reaching the semi-finals of the Australian Open this January and after an understandable blip the Pole has looked much more the part in her last few tournaments. It is hard not to back Andreeva, on merit, on this incredible breakthrough but realistically Linette should have enough here despite having to play the villain. Consider taking Andreeva to earn at least a set on her birthday, outside of an accumulator, but otherwise back Linette to edge through outright.
