This could be a fascinating first meeting between two contrasting styles as both world number 25 Anastasia Potapova and number 54 Mayar Sherif find themselves in career-best form this spring. 22-year-old Potapova has beaten Coco Gauff twice this season already amongst other top results over the likes of Caroline Garcia and Qinwen Zheng and she conceded just three games to Taylor Townsend on Sunday for an early statement of intent. 27-year-old Sherif conceded just one game more to Madison Brengle in a mis-match on her favoured clay and the Egyptian only recently produced a career-best run to the quarter-finals of the Madrid Open, where she took the first set from eventual champion Aryna Sabalenka before defeat. Both players won their maiden WTA titles on clay last season but whilst Sherif has an exciting game for clay she could find herself overpowered by the Russian in the end. Back Potapova to earn at least a set as the likelier of two capable winners and leave the result up to chance.
