World number 55 Maxime Cressy finished runner-up to Taylor Fritz here in Eastbourne last summer after an excellent victory in three tight sets over Jack Draper in the semi-finals. The 26-year-old’s throwback serve-and-volley style is well-suited to grass court tennis but he has seriously struggled for form coming into the swing, with Tuesday’s victory over Daniel Elahi Galan snapping a woeful run of 11 losses since the Open 13 in February. 26-year-old Zhizhen Zhang set a new career-high ATP world ranking of 54th this week after recent runs to the quarter-finals of the Madrid Masters and the third round of Roland-Garros on clay. The Chinese grabbed an impressive straight-sets victory over former finalist Lorenzo Sonego on Tuesday to look the part on grass but Cressy should be a different animal here with the losing streak off his back. Take Cressy to earn at least a set as the likelier of two very capable winners and consider adding at least a tiebreak with the American’s serve a tough nut to crack.
