THE PREDICTION

World number 46 J.J. Wolf conceded just three games to Jason Jung on Tuesday to get a solid foothold in at the Atlanta Open. The 24-year-old will be pleased to get back on his favoured hardcourts after a tricky few months on the clay and grass, with his run to the round of 16 at the Australian Open back in January coming off of form he began to build on the late US hardcourt swing last year. World number 105 Maxime Cressy brought a shocking 8-18 record for 2023 into Atlanta after losing to tour debutante Alex Michelsen as the defending champion of the Hall of Fame Open last week. The 26-year-old exorcised that particularly demon by beating 19-year-old Michelsen in straight sets on Tuesday but there is a lot of confidence to build back for Cressy after an incredible breakthrough year last season. Neither player brings much recent form to this first encounter but Wolf beat Cressy almost a year ago en-route to his maiden tour final in Florence and he can be backed to take at least a set here to leave the victor up to chance.
