THE PREDICTION
22-year-old Mateo Arnaldi set a career-high ATP world ranking of 72nd last month after an impressive clay swing saw success on the Challenger circuit and strong results across the Masters events and Roland-Garros. The Italian was the top seed in qualifying last week but he made it eight wins on the spin under tour level to make his Wimbledon debut in this intriguing first encounter with Roberto Carballes Baena. 30-year-old Carballes Baena broke the top 50 for the first time earlier this season after winning his second ATP title at the Marrakech Open and the Spaniard is also at his best on clay. RCB has lost each of his four appearances so far at SW19 to look the slight underdog here and Arnaldi has impressed on the bigger stages this season. Take the Italian to win at least a set as the likelier victor based on his strong qualifying campaign but it is probably worth leaving this match out of an accumulator.
