World number 76 Matteo Arnaldi proved that seeds mean little on clay versus comfort on the surface as he came back from a set down to beat top seed Jiri Lehecka on Friday. The 22-year-old has been steadily climbing the rankings on his favoured surface all summer and he will set a new career-high ATP world ranking of around 63rd no matter the outcome here. World number 90 Alexei Popyrin is capable of much better tennis than his current ranking suggests and he has proved it this week by reaching the semi-finals in Umag without dropping a set. The Aussie overcame young home hopeful Dino Prizmic in two tight sets on Friday to look rock-steady this week but Arnaldi seems the kind of player that can push on from a huge result to make this a very intriguing first encounter between the two. Popyrin is vastly more experience than Arnaldi but baggage comes with it. Take Arnaldi to earn at least a set inside an accumulator or risk the outright call on its own after already ousting one hard-hitting opponent in Lehecka.
