THE PREDICTION

World number 26 Martina Trevisan is the defending champion here in Rabat after claiming her maiden WTA title here last season with form that took her all the way to the semi-finals of Roland-Garros. The 29-year-old is one of the streakier players on tour, and certainly one of the more ‘specialist’ clay-courters out there, but wins on hardcourts against Maria Sakkari and Jelena Ostapenko this season suggest her overall game is in a very good place. 26-year-old Julia Grabher is enjoying some the best form of her career so far on clay and she can break the top 70 on tour for the first time with one more win after a straight-sets result over Cagla Buyukakcay. The Austrian took Daria Kasatkina to three sets before a tight defeat in the third round of the Italian Open two weeks ago but Trevisan should have too many weapons in these conditions. This may come tighter than it looks but backing the Italian to win outright seems a reasonable risk.
