THE PREDICTION
Both 20-year-old Qinwen Zheng and 21-year-old Marta Kostyuk have won their maiden WTA titles this season, with Kostyuk claiming hers on a hardcourt in Austin back in March and Zheng on her favoured clay at the Palermo Ladies Open. Kostyuk comes into Montreal at a career-high WTA world ranking of 32nd after a strong run to the quarter-finals of the Washington Open, where she upset both Bianca Andreescu and Carolina Garcia before defeat to defending champion Liudmila Samsonova, with those matches complement recent results over the likes of Maria Sakkari and Paula Badosa at Wimbledon. World number 24 Zheng lost to Madison Keys in no great embarrassment on her first match back since winning Palermo but this first meeting between the two certainly sees Kostyuk better prepared on hardcourts. Three sets seem likelier than two, and this match is probably best left our of an accumulator, but take Kostyuk to earn at least a set to leave the victor up to chance.
