World number 16 Jelena Ostapenko could be one to watch this week in Guadalajara after her impressive run to the quarter-finals of the US Open earlier this month. The 26-year-old came back from a set down to stun then world number one Iga Swiatek in the round of 16 in New York but she continues to struggle with putting players away as two more three-set matches last week in San Diego made it nine of her last 10 matches needing deciders. World number 42 Marta Kostyuk needed three sets to beat Stacey Fung on Monday in a not too encouraging opener in Guadalajara but the 21-year-old has improved steadily this season and she has often played her best tennis against the better players on tour. Ostapenko should be coming through this first encounter but consider taking the match to see three sets in keeping with her erratic recent results.
