World number six Caroline Garcia received a bye to the round of 16 at the Citi Open as the second seed here in Washington but she looks far from the player who blasted through to the Cincinnati Masters almost a year ago. The 29-year-old has plenty or ranking points to lose over the last portion of the season as the current Cincinnati and WTA Finals champion and she desperately needs a strong week here after losing each of her two finals played so far this season. 21-year-old Marta Kostyuk is a serious challenge in her current form as the Ukrainian came back from a set down to upset former US Open champion Bianca Andreescu on Tuesday -saving match points. Kostyuk will set a new career-high WTA world ranking if around 33rd after the feat, backing-up her maiden WTA title claimed at the Austin Open back in March and her huge results over Maria Sakkari and Paula Badosa at Wimbledon last month. Garcia has beaten Kostyuk in both of their previous meetings but both matches needed a deciding set on clay and Kostyuk was 17 the last time they played. Take Kostyuk to earn at least a set to leave the victor up to chance.
