THE PREDICTION

23-year-old Marketa Vondrousova famously finished runner-up o Ash Barty at Roland-Garros in 2019 and she is one of the most talented players on clay on the rare occasion that everything clicks into gear. The current world number 57 is working her way back up the rankings from a long injury lay-off that saw her miss Roland-Garros last summer but a run to the third round at the Australian Open in January suggests she could make the second week here with the right draw. 22-year-old Alicia Parks set a career-high WTA world ranking of 45th this week after a run to the quarter-finals of the Rabat Open. The American claimed her maiden WTA title at the Lyon Open on her favoured hard surface back in February but after a choppy start to the clay swing she has enjoyed some convincing results in recent weeks. Vondrousova is a fairly erratic performer and backing her to win outright is certainly the sensible move despite the fact she should be coming through in two.
