THE PREDICTION

23-year-old Mariano Navone will set a new career-high ATP world ranking of 45th after a stunning comeback over compatriot Francisco Cerundolo early on Saturday. The Argentine has now reached at least the semi-finals in each of his past three tournaments, finishing runner-up to Sebastian Baez at the Rio 500 before losing to eventual champion Matteo Berrettini at this stage in Marrakech two weeks ago, but he will have to dig incredibly deep to make tomorrow’s final in this second match of his day – having spent nearly three hours on court already.

World number 128 Gregoire Barrere has impressively navigated an inordinately rain-affected Bucharest well this week, playing twice on Friday to bring the much better rest into this semi-final. The 30-year-old is far better than his current deflated ranking suggests, briefly breaking inside the top 50 this time last season, but wins over Sebastian Korda and an admittedly exhausted Pedro Martinez yesterday came as a surprise on this surface. Back in-form clay-courter Navone to earn at least a set here to leave the result, unfortunately likely settled on the weather’s terms, up to chance.

TIP: MARIANO NAVONE TO WIN A SET
