World number eight Maria Sakkari beat Xiyu Wang in straight sets on Monday to get a decent foothold at the Nottingham Open, exorcising her shock first round exit from Paris last time out. The 27-year-old has the fierce, combative game to excel on grass but as of yet she has struggled to make an impact on the surface on tour. Sakkari leads Cornet 3-0 in their head-to-head record but this first meeting on grass levels things a little.
