World number 17 Adrian Mannarino is through to the semi-finals of the Dallas Open without barely breaking a sweat after first receiving a walkover to the last eight and then seeing James Duckworth retire injured early in their second set on Friday. The 35-year-old won three ATP 250 titles last season to surge up the rankings and he shows no signs of slowing down at this level after an excellent run to the round of 16 at the Australian Open saw him stun Ben Shelton in five thrilling sets with his unorthodox, unique brand of tennis.
A rematch with Shelton is on the cards this weekend but world number 67 Marcos Giron should not be underestimated after an excellent straight-sets upset over top seed Frances Tiafoe on Friday. The 30-year-old also reached the semi-finals of the Tokyo 500 in late October, stunning Felix Auger-Aliassime and Casper Ruud, to prove he is in a great moment in these conditions and he beat Mannarino in straight sets in their only previous tour-level encounter this time three years ago. Giron will be backed to the hilt on home soil but Mannarino has become a totally different prospect at this level over the past eight or so months. Back the Frenchman to win at least a set as the likelier of two capable finalists.
