World number 29 Sebastian Korda is the 24th seed at Roland-Garros and a potential dark horse for a deep run if he can just get a confidence-boosting win under his belt. The 22-year-old reached the quarter-finals of a Grand Slam for the first time at the Australian Open back in January before suffering an injury that saw him have to concede to Karen Khachanov. Korda missed the next three months of the season and he is yet to win a set since his return at the Madrid Open but the longer format in Paris gives him a little more room to breathe. World number 56 Mackenzie McDonald also started 2023 off on fire before an injury saw him drop out of the Australian Open in the third round but clay is certainly his weakest surface and he brings a concerning five-set losing streak into this first encounter with his compatriot. Sets should go both ways here but it is hard to back either American confidently to win outright, so consider taking this match to see five sets in a one off punt or leaving it alone altogether. If Korda wins here his stock will improve significantly, though.
