LUCIANO DARDERI VS TALLON GRIEKSPOOR PREDICTION
22-year-old Luciano Darderi brought a career-high ATP world ranking of 40th into Roland-Garros after enjoying a brilliant breakthrough season on his favoured clay and he played like it on Tuesday, beating Rinky Hijikata in straight sets. The Italian reached the semi-finals of the Lyon Open last week before defeat to eventual runner-up Tomas Martin Etcheverry and he claimed his maiden title at the Cordoba Open in February, in only his third tour-level event.
World number 25 Tallon Griekspoor won his first two titles last season, on hardcourts in Pune and grass at home in ‘s-Hertogenbosch, but he is a comfortable all-court threat with an engine for five-set tennis. The 27-year-old beat Mackenzie McDonald in four sets on Tuesday for a solid start in Paris but this should be a tougher test against a hungry young opponent with little to lose in his debut slam.
Back Darderi to earn at least two sets as the just-about likelier of two very capable victors. It would not be a surprise to see this match need five sets.
