World number 35 Sloane Stephens overcame a tough challenge against Peyton Stearns on Thursday to look the favourite to lift the Morocco Open trophy on Saturday. The 30-year-old is a hard player to back with full confidence as one of the most erratic performers on tour but coming back from a set down against Stearns suggests she is locked-in this week ahead of a now promising campaign at Roland-Garros, where she finished runner-up to Simona Halep in 2018. World number 102 Lucia Bronzetti should not be underestimated, though, after turning around some woeful form this season with three wins on the spin in Rabat. The Italian conceded just two games to Alycia Parks on Thursday to claim her best result of the season so far but a first meeting with Stephens will be a significantly steeper test. The American has enough experience at this level to know when to take hold of an opportunity so back Stephens to win outright here with three sets a distinct possibility.
