World number 69 Danka Kovinic has been enjoying some solid form over the last few weeks and she took form from an ITF title won in Portugal into the Madrid Open two weeks ago to challenge Barbora Krejcikova in an eventual three-set defeat. The 28-year-old beat Sara Errani in the first round in Madrid and she will face another Italian here in Lucia Bronzetti, who just made the main draw cut at world number 98. 24-year-old Bronzetti played her part as Italy’s second option well at the United Cup back in January but she has lost each of her last nine tour-level matches to bring very little form into this first meeting with Kovinic. The Montenegrin has an entertaining game when she finds some rhythm but it is also hard to back her confidently as a fairly erratic player. Take Kovinic to win outright inside an accumulator or in straight sets on its own.
