THE PREDICTION

World number 12 Barbora Krejcikova won her maiden Grand Slam title at Roland-Garros in 2021, going on to reach back-to-back quarter-finals at both the US Open and then 2022 Australian Open. The 27-year-old has struggled with form and fitness over much of the last 18 months since, though, to see only one more second week reached in Melbourne this January. The Czech won the Dubai Masters from nowhere earlier this season to prove what she can do when everything is moving in the same direction but even her doubles results alongside Katerina Siniakova have slowed up a little this year. World number 76 Lucia Bronzetti is still a kind opening draw for the 12th seed but this first meting between the two could see sets go both ways, with Krejcikova taking a three-match losing streak and Bronzetti a five-match losing streak into the first round. Back Krejcikova to come through outright but consider leaving this one out of an accumulator.
