19-year-old Luca Van Assche was a junior Roland-Garros champion in 2021 but he has so far arguably, struggled to live up to his hype on clay at tour level. The Frenchman beat Zhizhen Zhang in straight sets at this stage in Barcelona last week but an injury forced him out of his second round match with Fabian Marozsan, making this match well worth keeping away from accumulators. World number 103 Zizou Bergs is in a good moment on clay, taking eventual Houston Open champion ben Shelton to three sets before defeat earlier this month and since reaching back-to-back finals on the surface at Challenger level, winning last time out in Tallahassee. Van Assche has plenty of time to figure out his game at this level but back in-form Bergs to ride his form, and a well-earned wildcard into the second round.
