THE PREDICTION

World number nine Taylor Fritz overcame Jiri Lehecka 16-14 in their first-set tiebreak to break his opponent’s spirit in a hard-fought straight sets win. The 25-year-old recently won his sixth ATP title at the Atlanta Open to back up his fifth from Delray Beach back in February but he has not looked as rock solid as he could be after losing to eventual runners-up Tallon Griekspoor and Alex de Minaur at Washington and Toronto, respectively. World number 39 Lorenzo Sonego looks a relatively kind opener, though, after beating Alexander Shevchenko in three sets on Tuesday. The 28-year-old is always a danger on any surface but the best of his form has certainly come on clay this year and he is better indoors on hardcourts. Fritz leads the Italian 3-2 in their head-to-head but 2-0 on hardcourts and he can be backed to win through with the home crowd behind him.
