THE PREDICTION
This should be a good-natured all-Italian clash between world number nine Jannik Sinner and number 39 Lorenzo Sonego, who met for the first time at the Montpellier Open back in February. 21-year-old Sinner beat Sonego in straight sets in the quarter-finals there on his way to a seventh ATP title but grass conditions level the playing field a little this time around, particularly after Sonego impressed with a three-set victory over Aslan Karatsev on Tuesday. Sinner needed three sets to overcome seasoned veteran Richard Gasquet on Tuesday and he should be treated with caution here after a shock defeat to Emil Ruusuvuori in the quarter-finals of ‘s-Hertogenbosch last week. Sonego has a high ceiling on fast surfaces but Sinner’s level is the more dependable of the two. Back the younger Italian to earn at least a set as the likelier of two very capable winners here or risk a one-off on three sets required.
