World number 44 Andy Murray played well in Washington this week, beating Brandon Nakashima in straight sets before taking the first in a three-set defeat to top seed Taylor Fritz. The 36-year-old’s last two defeats have come to top 10 opposition after a five-set slog against Stefanos Tsitsipas and he would likely have won that encounter had the match not been postponed overnight due to the curfew. World number 41 Lorenzo Sonego reached the semi-finals of the Umag Open last week before defeat to eventual runner-up Stan Wawrinka. The 28-year-old had found some strong form on clay before a tough grass swing but he is an excellent all-courter with titles on all three surfaces. Murray came back from a set down to beat Sonego in their first encounter at the Qatar Open back in February and taking the Brit to earn at least a set looks the sensible way to lean here. Otherwise, back Murray to edge through with the more recent hardcourt matches in his legs.
