THE PREDICTION
World number 19 Lorenzo Musetti has enjoyed and endured some incredibly erratic form so far this season but the 21-year-old will be desperate to bring his best to Rome. Musetti first burst onto the scene here with a run to the round of 16 as a qualifier, beating Stan Wawrinka and Kei Nishikori en-route, and he only recently claimed the biggest ranking win of his career by beating Novak Djokovic at the Monte-Carlo Masters. At his best the Italian is capable of beating Carlos Alcaraz on clay, as he did to win the Hamburg Open last summer, but it is hard to predict just how well he will play on any given day right now. 22-year-old Arnaldi is the elder Italian but much less experienced. He came into Rome at a career-high ATP world ranking of 99th after stunning Casper Ruud at the Madrid Open two weeks ago and he will be a threat to Musetti here, especially as the crowd will probably get behind the underdog at the start of the match. Leave this one well away from an accumulator but consider a one-off on Arnaldi to earn at least a set after he got a taste of home support in beating Diego Schwartzman in three on Thursday.
