World number 18 Hubert Hurkacz reached the semi-finals here in 2021 before defeat to eventual runner-up Matteo Berrettini and he looks a threat once again after two rounds. The 26-year-old won the Halle Open last summer to prove his credentials on grass even further but he has struggled to put away players so far this season, making back-to-back straight-set wins here all the more convincing. World number 16 Lorenzo Musetti is also through to the third round, for the first time at Wimbledon, without dropping a set but wins over fellow clay-court lovers Juan Pablo Varillas and Jaume Munar were to be expected. The 21-year-old is gifted enough to one day be a top 10 player who carries a threat on all surfaces but right now this looks a mis-match in Hurkacz’ favoured conditions, despite the fact that Musetti leads their head-to-head 2-1. Hurkacz’s win came in straight sets here in 2021, though, to suggest that backing the Pole to reach the round of 16 is the sensible option here.
