THE PREDICTION
This should be a thrilling first encounter on tour between two young players destined to battle many more times at the top of the sport over the next decade. Both players entered Queen’s at respective career-high ATP world rankings, with world number six Holger Rune reaching the quarter-finals at Roland-Garros for a second-successive season and world number 16 Lorenzo Musetti making the round of 16 for the second time overall. Both Musetti and Rune are relatively inexperienced on grass but Musetti’s three-set victory over Ben Shelton and Rune’s win over home hopeful Ryan Peniston on Wednesday suggest they are finding their feet at Queen’s. Musetti has reached back-to-back quarter-finals on the surface after losing to eventual champion Frances Tiafoe in three sets in Stuttgart last week and that extra practice could be the deciding factor here. Back Musetti to earn at least a set as the just-about likelier to edge through but leave this tight call out of an accumulator.
