THE PREDICTION

World number 13 Cam Norrie looked excellent in his straight-sets victory over Lucas Pouille on Wednesday but he was helped by an exhausted opponent as the Frenchman struggled to find his qualifying level. 27-year-old Norrie is one of only two players to have beaten world number one Carlos Alcaraz on clay this season when he took the Rio Open title from the Spaniard in February but next opponent Lorenzo Musetti did the same in Hamburg last summer to claim his first title on tour. 21-year-old Musetti conceded even fewer games to Alexander Shevchenko than Norrie did to Pouille on Wednesday to reach the third round of Roland-Garros without dropping a set and the Italian will give everything he has to return to the round of 16 in Paris two years on from taking eventual champion Novak Djokovic to five sets here.

Musetti’s game is perfect for the conditions, perhaps at detriment to other surfaces, and he will receive the lion’s share of the support as the more explosive player. Norrie is well capable of gritting his way through this first meeting with Musetti but back the Italian to earn at least a set as the just-about likelier to come through this very tight clash.
