19-year-old Lisa Pigato won the battle of the wildcards on Tuesday in a three-set victory over fellow Italian Diletta Cherubini and this is no doubt the biggest match of her career against world number nine Daria Kasatkina. Whilst it would be entertaining to suggest that Kasatkina, who has endured some seriously erratic form this season, is vulnerable here it is far likelier that the Russian enjoys a comfortable opening win in conditions that suit her metronomic game for clay. The 25-year-old brings a 5-3 record on clay into the Italian Open and she almost reached the final here last season with a three-set defeat to eventual champion Ons Jabeur in the semi-finals. Back Kasatkina to win in straight sets.
