THE PREDICTION
Defending Hua Hin champion Lin Zhu claimed her first WTA title here last season off the back of a brilliant run to the round of 16 at the Australian Open, where she took two-time champion Victoria Azarenka to three sets before defeat. This time around, though, the 30-year-old was hoping to snap a two-match losing streak in the first round after a surprising early exit in Melbourne two weeks ago and she should be feeling a lot better for doing so against Taylah Preston on Tuesday. World number 126 Linda Fruhvirtova is far better than her current deflated ranking suggests but she may struggle to oust the Chinese on a court in which she is clearly comfortable, particularly with the majority of the crowd behind her. 18-year-old Fruhvirtova took Beatriz Haddad-Maia to three sets before an early exit of her own in Melbourne last week, proving she can be dangerous in these conditions, but back Zhu to earn at least a set as the likelier of two capable quarter-finalists.
