World number 22 Ekaterina Alexandrova came back from set down to beat Xinyu Wang on Thursday, dropping her first set in Cleveland after an assured week so far. The 28-year-old owns four WTA titles at 250 level and she looks the reasonable favourite to add a fifth this weekend as the last remaining seed in the draw. World number 48 Lin Zhu knocked out the struggling top seed, Caroline Garcia, in comfortable straight sets on Thursday to maintain a searing campaign. The 29-year-old has conceded just 13 games so far and she will be ecstatic after claiming the biggest ranking win of her career over the WTA Finals champion. The Chinese claimed her maiden WTA title at this level at the Hua Hin Championships back in February to look very competitive here but back Alexandrova to edge through their first encounter as a more consistent high performer.
