World number four Casper Ruud started well against Laurent Lokoli on Monday and then coped with a fight back from his opponent to come through in four sets. The 24-year-old has finished runner-up in three of his last five Grand Slams after a second-successive final at Roland-Garros last month but he has yet to make it past the second round at Wimbledon on by far his weakest surface. That paves the way for at least a small chance at a huge upset here in what could end up the biggest match of world number 142 Liam Broady’s career, with the Brit coming from a confident straight-sets victory over Constant Lestienne on Monday. 29-year-old Broady is a left-hander with the game for grass but it would be largely sentimental to suggest a win here, which would eclipse his career-best result over the world number 12 Hubert Hurkacz at the Tokyo Olympics two years ago. The sensible choice is taking Ruud to win outright here but a one-off on Broady, backed by a partisan atmosphere, to earn at least a set could be the value option.
