21-year-old Peyton Stearns will set a new career-high WTA world ranking of around 67th after blasting past Panna Udvardy on Monday, conceding just two games. The American reached her maiden WTA tour final last month at the Bogota Open before defeat to defending champion Tatjana Maria and she has thoroughly impressed since making her way from the ITF circuit into full tour life this season. World number 51 Leylah Fernandez is the younger player here but by far the more experienced on tour with two WTA titles to her name already and, of course, that miraculous runners-up finish at the US Open in 2021. The Canadian has struggled to find her consistent best since suffering a serious foot injury last summer but it should not take too long for her to rediscover her battling best. This first meeting between two scrappers could end up a thriller in Rabat but at this moment in time it is hard to back Fernandez with any real confidence. Take Stearns to earn at least a set and leave the victor up to chance.
