THE PREDICTION

World number 56 Lesia Tsurenko has enjoyed an excellent past 12 months on tour in a renaissance period at 34 years old. The former world number 21 reached the round of 16 at Roland-Garros last month with some stunning wins over Bianca Andreescu and former champion Barbora Krejcikova but she suffered an injury against eventual champion Iga Swiatek and she has not played a tour level match since. It remains to be seen how she fares one month on from her injury but if fit she looks the clear favourite in conditions that suit her against world number 95 Claire Liu, who has struggled all season long. Tsurenko should not be underestimated in the first few rounds at SW19 as an excellent player on natural surfaces but take the outright option here for caution’s sake.
