THE PREDICTION
World number 66 Lesia Tsurenko proved herself to be one of the tougher unseeded players to draw at Roland-Garros with a stunning straight-sets upset over 2021 champion Barbora Krejcikova. 33-year-old Tsurenko was ranked as high as 23rd in the world back 2019 and whilst three of her four WTA titles were won on hardcourts, her first came on clay at the Istanbul Cup in 2015. Tsurenko beat next opponent Lauren Davis in the first round of the Acapulco Open in 2018 en-route to her most recent title but the playing field should be a little more level here as Davis favours clay-court conditions. The 29-year-old beat Lin Zhu in comfortable fashion on Tuesday to get a good foothold in Paris and she beat former finalist Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova in three sets on her way to the semi-finals of the Strasbourg Open last week. Sets could go both ways here but Tsurenko looks the reasonable favourite. Back the Ukrainian to earn at least a set inside an accumulator or win outright on its own.
