World number six Coco Gauff comes into the US Open as a clear title contender for perhaps the first time in her career after claiming a first Masters title in Cincinnati last week. The 19-year-old had just won her most prestigious of now five WTA titles at the Washington 500 with a superb campaign but she eclipsed that feat in Cincinnati with, amongst other huge results, a game-changing first win over world number one Iga Swiatek to take their head-to-head to 7-1. The hype and fanfare around Gauff will be like nothing we have seen before but she looks ready to thrive in it under new coach Brad Gilbert, who looks to have evaporated all the anxiety from the American’s game. World number 108 Laura Siegemund is a renowned battler who came through qualifying with relative ease but the German should have few answers for Gauff in this form. Back the sixth seed to win in straight sets.
