LAURA PIGOSSI VS MARTA KOSTYUK PREDICTION
21-year-old Marta Kostyuk brings a career-high WTA world ranking of 20th into Roland-Garros after enjoying her best, most consistent start to a season yet on tour. The Ukrainian had always impressed at the Australian Open, having been around for quite some time already, but a run to the quarter-finals proved, perhaps most importantly to herself than others, that she is capable of becoming a top 10 stalwart in the near future.
Runner-up finishes at WTA 500 events in San Diego and Stuttgart, the latter of is her best showing on clay, and a semi-final exit to eventual champion Iga Swiatek at Indian Wells gives her plenty of bedrock ranking points to aim for the top 10 this season but she brings a three-match losing streak into Paris to throw doubt over this campaign.
This is a kind enough opening draw, though, against world number 199 Laura Pigossi. The 29-year-old blasted through qualifying to bring some confidence into her debut here but recent results suggest Kostyuk will have too much for her. Back the 18th seed to win in straight sets on its own or outright inside an accumulator.
