28-year-old Laslo Djere finished runner-up to Alexander Zverev at the Hamburg 500 last week to move back inside the top 40 on tour. The Serb set a career-high ATP world ranking of 27th four years ago after winning his first of two ATP titles on clay at the Rio 500 earlier that year and he looks a serious contender for a third this week after results over Lorenzo Musetti and Tomas Martin Etcheverry last week. A straight-sets victory over Christopher O’Connell on Tuesday is encouraging after losing in Hamburg and Djere can take comfort in a 2-0 lead in his head-to-head with Thiago Seyboth Wild, who beat Dennis Novak in straight sets on Tuesday to claim his first win since that memorable run to the third round at Roland-Garros. Three sets are a distinct possibility here but Djere is a tough competitor when he finds this sort of rhythm and he can be backed to win outright, if not in two.
