World number 34 Laslo Djere will be ecstatic to find that his recent surge in form on his favoured clay seems to have come with him onto the hardcourt swing. The 28-year-old is just seven places from his career-high ATP world ranking of 27th after finishing runner-up to Alexander Zverev at the Hamburg 500 last month and he is yet to drop a set this week in some strong displays at Winston-Salem. Djere recently lost in three sets to Dominic Thiem in the semi-finals of the Kitzbuhel Open but he will face the eventual champion next after Baez stunned Thiem in that final earlier this month. The 22-year-old made it seven wins on the spin with a very impressive three-set result over in-form Aleksandar Vukic on Wednesday and he beat Djere in straight sets at the Chile Open back in February. Three sets seem likelier than two between two of the more intense players on tour but backing Baez to earn at least one of them on his current streak seems the wisest way to lean here.
