THE PREDICTION

This is something of a sad match-up between former world number three Dominic Thiem and former number 14 Kyle Edmund as both players struggle to rehabilitate from long injury lay-offs. 28-year-old Edmund has suffered especially long after missing the entirety of 2021 and the vast majority of 2022 following surgery and he has lost all five tour-level matches played this season, although he claimed the first set of his year against Marc-Andrea Huesler last week in Munich. 29-year-old Thiem has been back on tour for the best part of 12 months now but despite some brief flashes late last season the Austrian is yet to look anything more than a shadow of his former self. Thiem beat Huesler over two days, coming back from a set and break down overnight, in Munich after the Swiss ousted Edmund last week and his subsequent defeat to Taylor Fritz was to be expected just hours later. Back Thiem to win in straight sets here but it would be wise to leave this match out of an accumulator.
