THE PREDICTION

World number 79 Cristina Bucsa brings a two-match losing streak into the Guadalajara Masters but the Spaniard was competitive in her opening defeat to Petra Kvitova at the US Open. The 25-year-old stunned Belinda Bencic at the Cincinnati Masters last month but failed to capitalise on the momentum with a poor defeat to Jasmine Paolini, two results that are rather symptomatic of an overall impressive but inconsistent season. Bucsa should have little trouble against world number 182 Kristina Mladenovic as the former number 10 has yet to win a tour-level match this season. Bucsa beat Mladenovic in straight sets in their only previous meeting last summer in Lausanne and the Spaniard has only improved since, with Mladenovic likely already focusing on the doubles draw here. Back Bucsa to win in two.
