THE PREDICTION
26-year-old Katie Boulter became the new British number one on the eve of the Nottingham Open and she played like it to win her maiden WTA title without dropping a set. Boulter set a new career-high WTA world ranking of 77th after the feat but she has fallen back to 88th after back-to-back early exits in Birmingham and Eastbourne. Former world number 20 Daria Saville enjoyed an excellent return to tour from hiatus last season before suffering a tough injury at the Japan Open. The current world number 228 returned to tour in Birmingham but she failed to qualify there to bring almost no form to speak of, but plenty of experience, into this intriguing first meeting with Boulter. Home advantage and grass-court form certainly favours Boulter here but Saville is a tenacious player who will enjoy the atmosphere on a show court at Wimbledon. The sensible move is backing Boulter to earn at least a set given her struggles to win since Nottingham but the Brit should be able to throw off the nerves to win through.
