THE PREDICTION
This should be a match full of long rallies between baseline enthusiasts Karen Khachanov and Thiago Monteiro. World number 12 Khachanov is an excellent all-courter but the best of his resurgent form over the last 12 months or so has certainly come on hardcourts, on which he has reached back-to-back semi-finals at Grand Slams in New York and Melbourne. The 26-year-old has been solid so far on clay this year but a straight-sets loss to Dan Evans in Barcelona last week was something of a surprise despite his poor record against the Brit. World number 97 Monteiro trails Khachanov 0-3 in their head-to-head but the Brazilian is at his best on clay and he has impressed in recent tournaments. A three-set victory over Borna Gojo on Wednesday suggests he is ready for a fight here and two of their three encounters have seen sets go both ways, including at this stage of the US Open last summer. Back Khachanov to win outright.
